Being more mindful is about staying in the present moment. When we're out of the present moment we get lost in thoughts about the past or the future, which can make us anxious. Practising mindfulness is like exercising a muscle; the more we do it the stronger it gets. To strengthen your mindfulness muscle practise paying close attention to whatever is going on right now. Perhaps you just notice the rise and fall of your breathing for a few minutes each day. Or you could try paying very close attention to every mouthful of food that you eat. Or, as you're walking along the street, really tune in to the feeling of walking and the sights and sounds around you. Being present helps us to feel calmer and more at peace. Try it!
